James "Jim" R. Miller, age 83, of Fort Wayne passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Stillwater Hospice Home. Born on October 5, 1940, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Virginia (Craighead) Miller. Jim was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, class of 1958. He proudly served as a firefighter for the city of Fort Wayne for over 26 years until retiring in 1991. Jim was also the owner of Ice Cream Cove in Angola, IN which he operated with his wife, Judith, for 9 years. When not working, Jim enjoyed renovating houses, selling them, and then moving on to the next house. Together, Jim and Judith renovated sixteen houses. Jim also loved being a grandfather to his grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Fort Wayne and of Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church in Adice, TX. Jim was also a member of Firefighters Local 124 Union.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Judith (Andorfer) Miller; sons, James R. (Reyne) Miller Jr. and Andrew (Carrie) Miller; grandchildren, James R. Miller III, Michael L. Miller, and Alyssia R. Thaxton; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Carolyn (Richard) Graft, Susan Shepherd, John (Joan) Miller, Joseph Miller, Geoffrey "Jeff" (Sally) Miller, and Paula Brauner; and several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia K. Lee; brother, Gerald (Barbara) Miller; and his parents.
