GILBERT ALLAN HEIM, "GIL", 83, a life-long resident of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away Monday Dec. 7, 2020, at Parkview Hospice Care. He died of complications due to Alzheim -er's. Gil retired from the Fort Wayne Fire Department in 1987 after serving 21 years. He had many fond memories of his firefighting career. As a young man he worked for Deluxe Marine in sales where he developed the interest of boats and his gift as a salesman. One of his last jobs was at Mill Supplies where his talents were recognized and appreciated. He was a prolific reader of history, old cars and boats. Most agree Gil was witty, well-read, generous and loving to his family and friends. Gil often voiced his appreciation of past travel with his wife, Joan, to many places he remembered fondly. He and Joan were members of Unity Christ Church where he often "volunteered" by eating the donuts after service. He was a devoted husband to both Joyce (Parent) Heim, deceased, and Joan (Lambert) Heim, his present wife. He was the loving father of Randy Heim, Rhonda (Heim) Hinsey, and his stepchildren, Tamara Tharp, Michael Tharp and Tara Mitchell. He was a devoted grandparent "G-Pa" to Dane Heim, Evan Heim, Clare Heim, Austin Holtzberg, Chase Tharp, Taylor Tharp, and Delaney Mitchell. He was also the "Great G-Pa" to Huxton Heim. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lela and August Heim; his sister, Lois Jean Heim (Swaim;) and his brother, Robert Edwin Heim. He will be very missed by his wife, children and friends.
