CHARLES E. IMLER, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, June 10, 2016, at Lutheran Life Villages. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Wayne. Born May 16, 1930, he was a son of the late William and Margaret Imler. He was a graduate of Central High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. On April 10, 1954, he married Martha J. Walker and together they recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Charlie was a firefighter with the Fort Wayne Fire Department for 27 years retiring as a Captain in 1980. For the next 18 years, he drove a school bus for Fort Wayne Community Schools. He was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. Charlie was a dedicated husband and father and brought his family up to share a Christian faith. He also enjoyed being a Fort Wayne firefighter, laughing and making others laugh. His hobbies included traveling and bicycle riding with the love of his life, Marty, and cooking and cleaning, "Yes, we said cleaning." Surviving relatives include his wife, Marty; three children, Jeanne Imler (John Gebhard-Moodie), Sharon Doster (Tim Schumacker), and Tim (Susan Knipstein) Imler; five grandchildren, Lindy Doster and Madeline, Mitchell, Max and Ike Imler; brother, Ralph Imler; and sister, Betty Maszkiewicz. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Robert Imler; and son-in-law Kevin Doster.
