CHARLES M. HOPPEL, 85, of Fort Wayne, died on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital. The U.S. Marine veteran was a member of the AMVETS and American Legion. He retired as a Fire Fighter Captain with the City of Fort Wayne and was a member of the Fort Wayne Professional Fire Fighters Local 124. He is survived by a daughter, Mary K. Saylor; sons, Michael C. Hoppel and Martin B. (Paula) Hoppel; two grandchildren, Charles B. Hoppel and Michael J. Saylor; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Riley Hoppel; and a sister, Charlotte Cox. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Hoppel, in 2006; a daughter, Beth Ann Hoppel; a brother; and a sister. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Lindenwood Cemetery.
