ALLEN L. PLASTERER, 79, of New Haven, died on Friday, May 18, 2012, 7:15 p.m., at Golden Years Homestead where he had been a resident since 2009. Born Feb. 13, 1933, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of Richard W. and Myrtle (Lee) Plasterer. His formative years were spent in Fort Wayne where he graduated from Central High School. On Feb. 1, 1952, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 31, 1956. He was employed for 21 years with the Fort Wayne Fire Department, retiring in 1979. He also delivered flowers for Indiana Flower Supply until 1988. On Jan. 29, 1983, he married Jacqueline L. Ramp. He was a member of Fort Wayne Firefighters Local 124. Surviving relatives include his wife, Jackie; three children, Dawn (Robert) Fiore and Rex (Juanita) Plasterer, both of Fort Wayne and Cheryl Walker of Huntington; two stepchildren, Laurie (Mark) Anderson of New Haven and Garrick (Jennifer) Cook of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Plasterer; and two sisters, Glenna Army and Marylin Glover. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Larwill. Preferred memorials to Firefighters Museum.
